Abstract

Background: Ischemic stroke is a major health problem that can cause neurological impairment and reduce quality of life. Head CT scanning plays an important role in differentiating ischemic stroke from hemorrhagic stroke and supporting appropriate clinical management. However, public knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of head CT examination and post-stroke therapy still need to be improved. This Community Service Program aimed to improve the knowledge and awareness of patients or stroke survivors regarding ischemic stroke, head CT examination, and post-stroke management.

Methods: The activity was conducted among patients or stroke survivors at the Indonesian Stroke Foundation (Yayasan Stroke Indonesia/YASTROKI), Semarang Branch. The educational intervention was delivered through face-to-face health education using lectures, presentation materials, educational leaflets, videos, demonstrations, and interactive discussions. Pre-tests and post-tests were administered to evaluate changes in participants' knowledge and awareness. The activity was conducted on July 12, 2026, and was attended by 30 participants.

Results: The pre-test results showed that only 15% of participants had knowledge about ischemic stroke, 10% understood the benefits of head CT examination and post-stroke management, and 15% understood the head CT examination procedure. Following the educational intervention, knowledge in all assessed indicators increased to 90%. Participants' awareness of undergoing a head CT examination also increased from 50% in the pre-test to 90% in the post-test.
Conclusion: Education regarding head CT examination in patients with ischemic stroke and post-stroke management can improve participants' knowledge and awareness. Regular and continuous educational activities are needed to improve community health literacy and encourage earlier examination and management of stroke.
