Abstract

Mayangsari, Kalipancur Village, Ngaliyan District is an area with the potential to experience river water overflows during high rainfall. This condition causes the community to be at risk of being late in evacuating goods or saving themselves because a simple, independent, and easy-to-operate early warning system is not yet available. This community service activity aims to implement a river water level rise early detection tool based on a float switch as an early warning facility that suits the needs of the community. The implementation method includes three stages, namely 1) socialization regarding mitigation and flood risk reduction, 2) installation of an early detection tool that works mechanically using a float switch without requiring an internet network so that it is easy to operate and maintain, and 3) training on the operation and maintenance of the tool for neighborhood administrators and residents. Activity evaluation was carried out through tool function tests and observation of participants' abilities in operating and maintaining the installed system. The results of the activity show that the tool is able to activate the buzzer automatically when the water surface reaches a warning limit of about one meter according to the set settings. Based on the results of function tests on-site, the system can work according to the design and be utilized by residents as an early warning medium. In addition, the community has understood how to operate and maintain the tool so that the system can be used independently. The implementation of this tool provides an alternative early warning system that is simple, easy to maintain, and supports community preparedness in facing potential floods in the local environment.
